Waffle Crunch Scarf Available for free download on September 29th 2023

A super cozy and light weight neck warmer to add some warmth to your lovely Fall evening!

Made with CYC4 medium worsted weight yarn and an 8 mm Tunisian hook, the neck warmer uses just 80 grams of yarn and made with just a two row pattern repeat!

This can be made to any desired length and naturally the amount of yarn needed will be more for a longer length.

The stitches used give this neck scarf a natural bias which gets corrected when we block. We have steam blocked the sample piece and it has opened up beautifully.

The YO in the pattern is counted as a stitch and will have a tendency to hide behind the adjacent stitch. Hence needs a bit of attention to get the stitch into play:)

Do give this pattern a try ! You will love the finished piece!!!

Materials: Any 4 ply Worsted weight acrylic yarn approximately 180-200 gms / 500 -600 yds for a scarf that measures 7” wide by 72” long.

Sample made is a neckwarmer length measuring 32” and uses 70 gms / 150 – 170 yds of Ice cake aran yarn that comes in a 200 gm ball and is 395 yds long.

Hook: 8 mm Tunisian hook

Gauge: 16 TSS by 12 rows = 4” square

Finished size: Sample measures 7” wide by 32” long after blocking.

Stitches and Abbreviations:

Yo               Yarn over

ESt               Edge Stitch worked in the last stitch of every row as follows – Insert hook through two loops of the last stitch , yarn over and pull up a loop.

TSS              Tunisian Simple Stitch worked as follows for the entire row – FP Forward pass  Insert hook from right to left under the next vertical bar, yarn over and pull up a loop. Repeat FP until the second last stitch.

TSS2tog       Tunisian Simple Stitch worked 2 together as follows for the FP –Insert hook under two adjacent vertical bars of the previous row, yo, pull up a loop.

RP                Return Pass worked as follows for all rows – Yarn over pull through 1 loop, yarn over pull through 2 loops till you have just one loop left on the hook.

Difficulty: Advanced

Notes:

1: The yarn over in each row is counted as a stitch.

2: The vertical bar created by the yo stitch tends to hide behind the next stitch. Pay attention to that stitch when working on the subsequent row . Refer to the pic at the end of the pattern to help recognize the stitch.

3: The pattern is worked over an odd multiple of 3 + 1 chain.

4:  The loop on the hook is always counted as the first stitch.

5:  The last stitch is always the Edge stitch.

6:  Stitch count is the same for all rows.

7:  Return Pass is the executed in the same manner for all rows.

8:  FP and RP constitute one row of pattern.

9: The scarf will have a natural bias. This can be set right by blocking.
