Yay! A new month and a new event happening at ViVaCrochet !
I have been wanting to revive the group with fun activities. We did host a crochet along for a Tunisian Bag inspired by the Fat Bottom Bag. We are now ready with a Granny Hexagon Cardigan with the usual ViVa twist to make it our own!
Of late I have been seeing a lot of Granny Hex Cardigans and so we ticked one box ,Trending, when we picked this cardigan as a Crochet Along project!
Here’s a little story behind the Cardigan:-
Whenever my daughter comes home for a holiday, she will come with plans like these- A) Ma we need to crochet 1 wearable a week and B) Let’s design something using Tunisian Crochet technique and C) Let’s make mandalas but let us both reverse the colors that we are using!
These are just the three things this time around!
We started in earnest with the Tunisian crochet first and that is still in the works! She hates sharing WIP pictures so you all have to wait a bit longer for the finished projects! Technically she has finished hers while yours truly lost steam once she went back:)
The Mandalas we designed as went along and it was a beautiful experience to see the same pattern show up differently in the choice of colors made! These are waiting to be blocked and photographed and written out.
The Hexagon Cardigan we started and finished in two days! Yes two days! It is that quick! It was a celebration of sorts! We got the yarn as part of winning the World Wide Knit in Public Day. We loved the Rosella yarn from Ganga Acrowools as soon as it arrived and the hexagon cardigan was earmarked for it.

We both made the exact same number of rounds but we used different hook sizes to get these sizes. The Cappucino colored one (referred to as Celebration Cardigan A) was made with 6 mm hook and the Autumn Glory (referred to as Celebration Cardigan B) with 5.5 mm hook.
Details of the sizes:
Celebration Cardigan A
Chest : 38 inches / 96.5 cms
Sleeve length from armhole : 11 inches / 27.9 cms
Sleeve circumference : 16 inches / 40.6 cms
Total length of Cardigan : 20.5 inches / 52 cms
Celebration Cardigan B
Chest : 42 inches / 106.7 cms
Sleeve length from armhole : 13 inches / 33.0 cms
Sleeve circumference : 18 inches / 45.7 cms
Total length of Cardigan : 22.5 inches / 57 cms
The Gauge we obtained were :-
Cardigan A Round 1 = 2″
Cardigan B Round 1 = 2.5″
Update :- A word about the gauge here. My daughter crochets differently from me. That is , the way she holds the hook and guides the yarn is different. Hence using the 6mm hook resulted in tighter rounds than what I got. I use the hook with a knife hold and glide the working yarn over my left hand. This results in a looser tension and even with using the 5.5 mm hook I got a bigger finished piece. The gauge is only suggestive in this pattern. The number of rounds needed will be according to your gauge. If you get 2″ for round 1 then after 15 rounds you will get 8″ as the measurement as shown in the following picture.

If you get 2.5″ then 15 rounds will result in 9″ as shown by the picture below

I have made the Hex Cardi before in child sizes before using Vardhman Brilon and 4 mm hook. Unfortunately I do not have any pictures of those as they were gifted away a long long time ago:)
I just wanted to say that these are easy to make and you will breeze through this Crochet Along!
